Kiongozi Online Launches as Kenya’s 2027 Election Platform

Kiongozi Online has launched a new civic platform intended to provide Kenyan citizens with verified election information in preparation for the 2027 General Elections. The platform is designed to enhance transparency and participation in the electoral process.

Platform Features

The platform covers all six elective positions in Kenya: President, Governor, Senator, Member of Parliament, Woman Representative, and Member of County Assembly. Users can search for candidates by county, view their party affiliations, and access their stated policy positions.

A polling station finder allows users to locate their designated voting location and receive directions. An election timeline tracks important dates, including voter registration deadlines and candidate filing deadlines.

Addressing Information Gaps

Kiongozi Online was developed in response to concerns about misinformation and information gaps observed during the 2022 elections. The platform aims to address these issues by providing verified candidate data obtained from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and direct submissions from candidates and political parties.

Additional Resources

The platform offers candidate profiles with background information and policy positions, a directory of registered political parties, an interactive election timeline, and voter education resources. Sauti Yetu, a forum for citizen discussion of candidates and electoral issues, is also included. Candidates and political parties have the option to create profiles for direct engagement with voters.
