Maduro Scheduled for Court Appearance January 4 2026

Following an operation by the United States that resulted in Nicolás Maduro’s removal from power, some Venezuelans demonstrated their support for the former president. The demonstrations occurred amidst a city characterized by empty streets and closed businesses.

Loyalty Demonstrations in Caracas

Members of the pro-Maduro Venezuelan Bolivarian Militia were observed in Caracas carrying firearms and operating motorcycles. Militia member Kelvin Maldonado stated that they are prepared to fight and will remain in the streets, asserting that a potential second attack by the United States would not catch them unprepared.

The Bolivarian Militia

The Venezuelan Bolivarian Militia was established in 2005 by the late President Hugo Chávez and formally recognized in 2010. It operates as part of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) and aims to ensure the comprehensive defense of the nation.

Protests and Government Response

Following a call from the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Maduro supporters gathered in Caracas to demand the release of Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores. The PSUV and the Venezuelan government have characterized the detention of Maduro and Flores as an act of kidnapping. The administration of President Donald Trump maintains that they were apprehended to face drug trafficking charges in the United States.

Motivations and Resistance

Narcizo Torrealba, a supporter of Maduro, expressed the belief that US leaders are attempting to seize Venezuela’s oil reserves. He stated that those present are prepared to resist and rebel.
