Ministries Form Task Force for Health Training Alignment

The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education have formed a joint task force to coordinate health training programs with national health priorities. The decision followed a meeting between Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale and Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba.
Task Force Formation and Objectives
The newly established task force will assess current health training programs against national health requirements. It will propose immediate reforms and create a detailed plan with specific goals to improve the country’s health workforce. The aim is to ensure training aligns with national healthcare needs and fulfills the constitutional right to health outlined in Article 43(1)(a).
Universal Health Coverage and Digital Integration
Discussions during the meeting addressed ongoing health sector reforms related to the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda. The Digital Superhighway initiative was noted as a key component, working to integrate health services across the country and address the presence of unqualified medical practitioners.
Human Resources and Training Strategies
The meeting emphasized the importance of human resources for health and the shared responsibility between the health and education sectors. Participants explored methods to support training institutions in developing programs that reflect the nation’s disease burden and service delivery priorities.
Commitment to Competency-Based Training
Both Ministries reiterated their dedication to competency-based, standardized, and adaptable health training. This approach seeks to strengthen the connection between education and population health needs, supporting the constitutional right to health for all Kenyans.
Alignment with Economic Transformation Agenda
This initiative supports the Government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), which prioritizes equitable healthcare delivery and the rapid implementation of Universal Health Coverage nationwide.
Meeting Attendees
Principal Secretaries Mary Muthoni (Public Health and Professional Standards) and Beatrice Muganda (Higher Education and Research), Director-General for Health Dr Patrick Amoth, and technical leaders from both Ministries were also present at the meeting.
