Morocco’s AFCON Win Boosts Bid for Major Events

Rabat – The president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, Fouzi Lekjaa, has praised Morocco’s organization of the recent Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). He characterized the event as demonstrating the country’s increasing capability to host major sporting competitions.

Lekjaa made these comments at the Moroccan-Spanish-Portuguese Business Forum concerning the 2030 World Cup. He highlighted the tournament’s success as a reflection of the progress made and the strength of Moroccan businesses and professionals.

AFCON as a Demonstration of Moroccan Capability

Lekjaa stated that hosting AFCON was not an isolated accomplishment but rather a step in a larger plan to welcome global events. He congratulated King Mohammed VI, the Moroccan people, and the companies and individuals involved in the tournament’s organization, noting the exceptional conditions in which it concluded.

The FRMF president emphasized that the entire AFCON tournament was managed and executed by Moroccan firms and personnel. He specifically acknowledged the contributions of Moroccan companies and staff, praising their efforts.

Lekjaa connected the success of AFCON to Morocco’s broader economic and infrastructural development. He stated that the tournament showcased Morocco’s organizational capacity and infrastructure, reflecting the country’s momentum across various sectors.

Preparation for the 2030 World Cup

Lekjaa indicated that the successful hosting of AFCON reinforces Morocco’s commitment to exceptional organizational processes. He described it as a stage in the country’s path toward hosting major sporting events, including the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco will co-host with Portugal and Spain. Lekjaa believes Morocco’s performance sent a strong signal of its readiness to organize prestigious global events and aims to establish Morocco as a hub for international sports.
