Music Program Honors Martin Luther King Jr This Month

The Sounds of Blackness, a three-time Grammy Award-winning group, will perform at the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts in St. Paul, Minnesota, on February 20th. The performance, titled “Music for Martin,” is a tribute to the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr.

Show History

“Music for Martin” was originally commissioned by the Ordway in 1988. The show has been performed at the Ordway on multiple occasions. Tanya Gertz, Ordway Programming and Community Impact Vice President, described the show as a celebration of joy, justice, and empowerment, noting the Ordway’s excitement in welcoming the Sounds of Blackness as they celebrate their 55th Anniversary.

Performance Date Significance

The performance coincides with Black History Month and the 70th Anniversary of the arrests of four civil rights activists, including Dr. King, for organizing the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Tickets are currently available for purchase at ordway.org.

Celebrate Minnesota held its annual gathering at the Ledge Amphitheater in 2025, featuring Anne Wilson and Maverick City Music.

Earth, Wind, and Fire concluded a series of shows at the Ledge Amphitheater in August of 2025.
