Nas’ Illmatic Anniversary Marks 32 Years

Commercial Performance

Following its release, Illmatic entered the Billboard 200 chart at number 12, selling 60,000 copies during its initial week. The Recording Industry Association of America certified the album as gold in January 1996, and platinum in 2001, indicating sales exceeding one million units in the United States.
