Angella Okutoyi, a Kenyan tennis star and reigning African champion, has launched a crowdfunding initiative to support her transition to a professional tennis career. The initiative comes as Okutoyi faces challenges securing sponsorships to cover the significant costs associated with professional play.
Okutoyi’s Career Achievements
Angella Okutoyi made history in 2022 by becoming the first Kenyan to win the Junior Girls Doubles title at Wimbledon. She has recently achieved career-high rankings of 414 in Singles and 223 in Doubles, following her victory in four titles in December 2025.
Crowdfunding Initiative
Okutoyi plans to turn professional in June 2026, after completing her studies at Auburn University in Alabama, USA. She has initiated a crowdfunding campaign to raise approximately US$300,000 (close to Shs40 million) annually. This funding would cover expenses such as coaching, travel, accommodation, tournament participation (25+ tournaments across multiple continents), living costs, and medical and insurance.
Okutoyi has secured a corporate sponsor and is in discussions with suppliers of equipment and apparel, as well as a physio and nutrition team. She is seeking supporters to join “Team Angella” and contribute to her journey. Donations can be made via MPesa or through a provided Mchanga link.
