Revolution sign USMNT GK Matt Turner on another loan from Lyon: Sources

The New England Revolution are set to re-sign U.S. national team goalkeeper Matt Turner on loan from Lyon, sources briefed on the situation tell The Athletic.

Turner returns on another loan deal with a purchase option, sources say. He is targeted allocation money (TAM)-eligible, meaning he does not require a designated player slot on the Revs’ roster.

The 32-year-old has 55 caps with the USMNT, including one at this World Cup when he played the final group stage game against Turkey.

Turner returned to the Revs, where his career initially blossomed, on loan last summer after a change in executive structure at Lyon put his future with the club in flux before ever arriving from Nottingham Forest. He has played 24 games for New England since coming back last summer and is once again regarded as one of the league’s best goalkeepers.

Turner first rose to prominence with the Revs, winning a starting role in 2018 and quickly becoming one of MLS’s best goalkeepers. He was named MLS Goalkeeper of the Year in 2021 (a year after being runner-up) and earned a big-money transfer to Arsenal in the winter of 2022.

At the 2022 World Cup, Turner played every minute for the U.S. He featured in seven games for Arsenal before joining Nottingham Forest in 2023 where he began as the starter before falling out of favor.

He then went on loan to Crystal Palace, where he, along with USMNT center back Chris Richards, was part of the club’s FA Cup-winning team in 2025.
