President William Ruto recently visited the Mt Kenya region, addressing concerns about his political standing within the area. He emphasized that his performance in office will be the primary factor in determining voter decisions ahead of the 2027 General Election.
During a church service in Othaya Constituency, Nyeri County, Ruto dismissed claims of a strained relationship with the region’s voters, asserting that opposition propaganda would not undermine the ties he has cultivated over time.
President Ruto stated that residents of Nyeri and the wider Mt Kenya region will evaluate his leadership based on the accomplishments of his administration, rather than political rhetoric. He expressed confidence that his long-standing relationship with the region would endure despite political challenges.
The visit occurred amidst noticeable political shifts in the region. Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has been actively engaging with Mt Kenya voters under the United Democratic Congress Party (DCP) banner, aligning himself with a growing opposition alliance.
President Ruto dismissed suggestions of declining support, asserting that politics based on falsehoods cannot undo the relationships he has built. He reiterated that Mt Kenya overwhelmingly supported his presidential bid and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to fulfilling its promises.
Ruto stated his readiness to be judged on his work, emphasizing that effective leadership is defined by service delivery rather than slogans, insults, or political theatrics. He encouraged residents to assess leaders based on tangible development outcomes.
The President accused his opponents, including his former deputy, of relying on slogans and lacking a clear agenda. He expressed confidence that his development record would secure victory in future elections. Deputy President Kithure Kindiki supported these remarks, stating that political distractions would not impede the government’s development agenda.
Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, often perceived as an ally of Rigathi Gachagua, publicly reaffirmed his support for President Ruto during the event. Kahiga declared Ruto as his President and refuted claims of divided loyalties. He also confirmed his continued membership within the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
President Ruto is scheduled to remain in Nyeri County for the next two days as part of his ongoing engagements in the Mt Kenya region, a period marked by increased political activity and evolving alliances.
