The AI meeting could also include OpenAI’s Sam Altman and Anthropic’s Dario Amodei, spotlighting Korea’s role in the global AI and semiconductor market.
Samsung Electronics Executive Chairman Lee Jae-yong, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won and Naver founder and board chair Lee Hae-jin are set to meet Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang together in the United States this week, industry sources said Wednesday.
The roundtable is expected to take place near Silicon Valley on Friday, with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei also possibly attending.
If it goes ahead, the gathering would mark what business circles describe as effectively the first time leaders from every major segment of the global AI market — memory, GPUs and generative AI services — have come together in one place.
OpenAI and Anthropic are the most influential players driving the generative AI market with ChatGPT and Claude. Naver, Korea’s search engine, is also actively incorporating generative AI services. Samsung and SK hynix play central roles in the AI infrastructure supply chain, including AI chips and memory. Nvidia dominates AI chips such as GPUs.
The meeting comes just over a month after Huang visited Korea in early June, where he met with leaders from Samsung, SK, Hyundai Motor, LG and Naver.
Industry experts interpret this week’s follow-up meeting as a renewed emphasis on Huang’s partnerships with Korean companies. Some also see the meeting as an opportunity to unveil a forward-looking vision that could ease recent concerns about a semiconductor and AI market peakout.
