South Africa’s Divas Festival to Focus on Women’s Empowerment

The Divas International Music Festival South Africa is scheduled for March 2026 at Coronation Park. The festival will be a celebration of women’s voices and a platform to address gender-based violence (GBV), held during Human Rights Month. The event, themed “Voices That Heal,” will feature an all-female lineup of South African artists, including Zee Nxumalo, Makhadzi, Mafikizolo, and Nkosazana Daughter.

Empowering Women and Youth Through Music

The festival will showcase an all-female lineup, including established artists like Zee Nxumalo, Makhadzi, Mafikizolo, and Nkosazana Daughter, alongside rising stars such as Snenaah and Lwah Ndlunkulu. Beyond entertainment, the festival aims to create opportunities for women and youth in the creative economy, encompassing performance, management, and production roles. Project manager Temoso Mokoena describes the festival as a movement focused on healing, empowerment, and social change.

A Tribute to the Legendary Miriam Makeba

A significant highlight will be a tribute to Dr. Miriam Makeba, commemorating the 17th anniversary of her passing. The Makeba Band, led by Zenzi Makeba Lee, will perform a special set reflecting on Makeba’s influence on music and social justice, referencing her 1963 speech at the United Nations denouncing apartheid. This tribute emphasizes the connection between music and activism.

Festival’s Social Impact

The Divas International Festival receives support from South Africa’s Department of Sports, Arts and Culture through the Mzansi Golden Economy initiative. This initiative aims to invest in the country’s creative industries and foster both cultural enrichment and local economic growth. Organizers emphasize the festival’s commitment to providing lasting opportunities for women and youth, promoting inclusivity in all aspects of the event.

A Global Invitation to Experience South African Culture

The festival offers international travelers a unique opportunity to experience South Africa’s music scene while supporting a vital cause. It combines music, activism, and culture, making it a compelling event for socially conscious tourists.

An Event for Social Change and Cultural Exploration

The festival is presented as a statement emphasizing the importance of women’s voices in combating gender-based violence, providing visitors with a chance to support a transformative social cause. It is positioned as a beacon of hope and change for those interested in exploring South African culture and making a difference.
