Early this month, Creative Loafing Tampa Bay contributor Alex English called South Tampa’s Paper Seahorse the “Best Proof the Future Is Analog,” and the shop proves it again to kick off the weekend.
A variety of shorts set to music open the night before a screening of “David and Lisa.” Released in 1962 and nominated for two Oscars (Best Director, Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium), the black-and-white film is kind of perfect for Halloween and the beginning of cuffing season as it finds Keir Dullea (as David Clemens) and Janet Margolin (as Lisa Brandt) playing teenagers who form a bond while being held in a in a psychiatric facility.
The movie will be presented on 16mm microfilm, and nerds can get some extra credit by reading the 1958 short story that inspired it (“Jordi/Lisa and David”).
