Sports Ministry Promotes Global Collaboration

Written by on January 12, 2026

The Sports Ministry has directed all national sports federations to establish a ‘Committee on International Relations’. The initiative aims to strengthen collaboration with international sports organizations.

The ministry’s directive outlines the committee’s responsibilities, including overseeing joint training programs and facilitating the hosting of significant sporting events within India.

Committee Composition and Objectives

National Sports Federations (NSFs) are instructed to form committees comprised of experienced individuals. These should include senior members, former international athletes, and subject matter experts with backgrounds in sports administration and diplomacy.

NSFs are required to submit details regarding the committee’s structure and objectives to the Sports Ministry within a 30-day timeframe.

Strategic Focus and Diplomatic Engagement

This development follows a recent directive from Sports Secretary Hari Ranjan Rao, who encouraged NSF officials to prioritize international networking over routine administrative tasks.

The committees will be responsible for monitoring changes in competition rules established by international federations. They will also ensure India’s continued participation in global sports through strategic diplomatic efforts.
