Tanzania has selected a 17-member swimming squad to compete in the 2026 Africa Aquatics Swimming Championships. The event will be held in Oran, Algeria, from May 5 to 10.
The team comprises both experienced and emerging swimmers, aiming to perform well at the continental competition. The championships were originally scheduled for Ghana, but Ghana withdrew, leading to a relocation to Algeria.
The Tanzanian swimming squad includes Bridget Donyo Heep, Crissa Denis Dillip, Filbertha Demello, Ibrahim Emmanuel Igoro, Kaysan Kachra, Michael Joseph, Nicolene Johannes Viljoen, Zack Okumu, and Zainab Moosajee. Additional team members are Collins Saliboko, Fidel Marsell Kavishe, Aminaz Kachra, Ethan Makala, Lorita Borega, Luke Okore, and Kabeer Rizwan Lakhani.
The team will be led by head coach Ally Msazi, with Radhia Shabani Gereza serving as assistant coach. Hadija Ahmed Shebe is the team manager, and Carmen Firmina Demello is the assistant manager. The delegation also includes technical officials and support staff.
The Africa Aquatics Swimming Championships are organized by the African Swimming Confederation (CANA) and occur every two years. The competition features top swimmers from across Africa, providing a platform for elite competition and international exposure.
The championships offer Tanzania an opportunity to evaluate progress and build momentum for future competitions. Several swimmers have demonstrated promising results in recent local and regional competitions, increasing expectations for improved performance. Officials express optimism that the team’s preparation and investment in swimming development will lead to positive outcomes in Algeria.
Despite the change in venue, Tanzania’s training program has remained consistent. The delegation is scheduled to arrive in Algeria several days before the championships to allow for acclimatization and final preparations.
