Wisconsin Republicans Support Supreme Court Gender Policy Decision

The US Supreme Court recently issued a ruling regarding parental involvement in school gender policies. Two Wisconsin Republican lawmakers have expressed support for the decision and are urging the state’s governor to enact related legislation.
State Representative Barb Dittrich and Senator Andre Jacque have been proponents of measures aimed at addressing gender policies in Wisconsin schools. They believe the Supreme Court’s ruling reinforces the role of parents in their children’s well-being.
Wisconsin Legislation
Dittrich and Jacque previously introduced Assembly Bill 103 and Senate Bill 120, intended to prohibit schools from implementing policies that withhold gender-related information from parents. The Assembly approved the bill in February, and it currently awaits action from Governor Evers. Both lawmakers are urging the governor to sign the bill into law, citing the Supreme Court’s decision as justification.
Concerns Regarding Existing Policies
The Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty (WILL) reports that at least 14 schools in Wisconsin, including those in Milwaukee, Madison, and Eau Claire, currently have policies that could be considered “secret gender policies.” WILL has indicated that these schools should revise their practices to align with the Supreme Court’s ruling, or face potential legal action.
Lawmakers’ Statements
Dittrich stated that the Supreme Court’s decision affirms parents’ authority in decisions related to their children’s health and well-being. Jacque echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that school employees should not conceal critical information from parents. He encouraged Governor Evers to formally enshrine the court’s ruling by signing Assembly Bill 103.
