World Environment Day 2026: environment, climate, and human rights at the centre of global attention

On 5 June 2026, the international community celebrates World Environment Day, an observance established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972 during the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment. The Day represents one of the leading global initiatives dedicated to raising awareness of environmental issues and encouraging concrete action to protect the planet.

World Environment Day highlights the increasingly evident connection between environmental protection and human rights.
