AGNES Africa and Equal Right Organization are seeking applications for an Early Career Climate Fellow position. This fellowship provides an opportunity for early-career professionals to contribute to climate justice and equitable climate finance across Africa.
About AGNES Africa
The African Group of Negotiators Experts Support (AGNES) was established in 2015 to provide scientific expertise and evidence-based guidance to support a common African position in climate change negotiations. AGNES collaborates with African institutions and regional policy spaces to ensure climate policies are informed, equitable, and inclusive.
Fellowship Overview
The Early Career Climate Fellowship aims to strengthen advocacy and engagement with key African institutions and regional policy forums. The Fellow will represent AGNES Africa and Equal Right Organization in strategic engagements, including the African Union (AU) and the Africa Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN), as well as other regional and national meetings and dialogues.
The fellowship will facilitate contributions to climate justice initiatives, advocate for equitable climate finance, and support the integration of policy models, such as Equal Right’s Cap and Share approach and Universal Basic Income frameworks, into continental climate governance.
Key Responsibilities
The Fellow will support the understanding, promotion, and integration of the Cap and Share policy model and Universal Basic Income approaches into African climate policy agendas. Responsibilities also include facilitating policy dialogues, workshops, and technical convenings with African stakeholders.
The Fellow will draft policy briefs, advocacy statements, and position papers to influence regional and continental climate decision-making. Monitoring, tracking, and reporting on relevant climate policy developments across Africa, particularly in areas related to climate justice and equitable climate finance, will also be required. Collaboration with AGNES Africa and Equal Right Organization teams to advance strategic advocacy initiatives is expected.
Duration and Location
This is a full-time fellowship for six months, with potential renewal based on performance and funding availability. The Fellow must be an African national based in Nairobi, Kenya, and will work within a multicultural, interdisciplinary environment.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be African nationals residing in Nairobi, Kenya. A bachelor’s degree in climate change, environment and natural resources, economics, finance, social sciences, law, or a related field is required. At least two years of relevant professional experience in climate policy, environmental advocacy, or related areas is also necessary.
Applicants should demonstrate a strong understanding of African climate governance, multilateral processes, and policy frameworks. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, along with creative, innovative, and critical thinking abilities are essential. A master’s degree in a relevant field is considered an added advantage. Applicants must be highly motivated, adaptable, and eager to contribute to learning and capacity-building in African climate governance.
