Senator Bill Cassidy (R-La.) is facing renewed criticism regarding his vote to confirm Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to a key government position, as concerns grow over Kennedy’s stance on vaccines and their potential impact on public health. The senator has recently expressed reservations about a revised vaccine schedule, but social media users are reminding him of his prior support for Kennedy.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently announced a reduction in the recommended number of vaccines for children, decreasing from 17 to 11. This adjustment aligns the United States with vaccination practices in other developed nations, such as Denmark.
Senator Cassidy, a physician, criticized the decision, stating that it would “make America sicker.” He emphasized his priority as protecting children and families, citing preventable deaths and hospitalizations due to diseases like measles and whooping cough. Cassidy argued that the vaccine schedule is a recommendation that empowers parents and that altering it without scientific input and transparency will create unnecessary fear and negatively impact public health.
Despite Cassidy’s recent statements, social media users have pointed out that he was instrumental in confirming Kennedy to his current role. Many have accused him of ignoring warnings about Kennedy’s views on vaccines and allowing a situation to develop that could harm public health.
One doctor responded to Cassidy’s post, stating that the situation was “as much your fault” as Kennedy’s, and that Cassidy had been warned repeatedly. Another user expressed frustration, accusing Cassidy of feigning concern after supporting Kennedy’s confirmation.
Since Kennedy assumed his position, measles outbreaks have been reported across the country, along with a resurgence of other previously controlled diseases. Some observers suggest that the nation is regressing to a less healthy state.
