In 1989, Eazy-E’s “We Want Eazy” entered the U.S. Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, marking his first hit single. Another Bad Creation released their debut album, Coolin’ at the Playground Ya Know!, on Motown in 1991. Erykah Badu released her debut studio album, Baduizm, in 1997, debuting at the top of the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and No. 2 on the Billboard 200. Funkmaster Flex launched The Mix Tape Volume II: 60 Minutes of Funk later that year, reaching No. 2 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. In 2003, DJ Envy debuted The Desert Storm Mixtape: Blok Party, Vol. 1, which ranked in the top 10 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

Justin Timberlake’s “My Love,” featuring T.I., won the award for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration at the 49th Annual GRAMMY Awards in 2007. Mary J. Blige’s “Be Without You” won Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, and John Legend’s “Heaven” received the award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance at the same ceremony. In 2011, Justin Bieber released Never Say Never, a concert film that earned $73 million and became the highest-grossing concert film.

Blige released her fourteenth album, Good Morning Gorgeous, in 2022, debuting at No. 14 on the Billboard 200 and No. 9 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Snoop Dogg released his nineteenth album, BODR (Back on Death Row), in 2022, his first release on Death Row Records in 26 years.

February 11 has also been a date for memorable performances. In 2024, Usher, Alicia Keys, Ludacris, Lil Jon, and H.E.R. performed at the Super Bowl LVIII halftime show. Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre performed at a Super Bowl afterparty to celebrate the 30th anniversary of “Gin & Juice.”
