Defence College of Health Sciences is a constituent college of the National Defence University-Kenya. The university senate formally adopted the college on December 22, 2021, with a subsequent university meeting confirming the decision on January 20, 2022.
The institution began in 1991 as the Armed Forces Medical Training School, initially focused on providing basic medical skills training for military personnel. In 2012, it transitioned to the Defence Forces Medical Training School and gained accreditation to offer diploma programs in Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing. The name changed again in 2022 to Defence College of Health Sciences, expanding its mandate to include degree courses aimed at bolstering health security and contributing to national security.
The Defence College of Health Sciences aims to be a leader in training healthcare professionals. The college seeks to equip graduates with a strong foundation of scientific knowledge, a range of practical skills, and positive professional attitudes, preparing them to effectively operate within demanding security contexts.
