Nigerian-American Dentist Launches Brand Focused on Oral Health

Dr. Abi Oladele, a Nigerian-American dentist, has launched Dentrogen, a company focused on preventative oral health and wellness. The company aims to redefine oral care by integrating innovation and addressing what she sees as stalled progress in the dental industry.

Background and Inspiration

Dr. Oladele developed a passion for dentistry through its blend of art and science. After earning her bachelor’s degree from Howard University, she sought to extend her impact beyond traditional dental work. This led to the creation of Dentrogen in late January, with the goal of helping individuals achieve optimal oral health at home.

Representation in Dentistry

As a Black dentist, Dr. Oladele is part of a small group, representing only 3.7% of the dental industry, according to data from the Delta Dental Institute. She is working to increase representation within the field while simultaneously developing Dentrogen. The company’s concept was developed in 2022 while she was working at a practice in Los Angeles.

Dentrogen’s Mission and Products

Dentrogen, named after the hydrogen element, strives to be a foundational force in the future of oral health. The company’s product line includes Black Fiber Coconut Floss and Elemental Brightening Toothpaste, all formulated using science-backed methods. Oladele emphasizes that true beauty lies in oral health, focusing on preventing issues like gum disease and cavities. The signature toothpaste offers a fluoride-free alternative, incorporating ingredients like aloe vera for gum comfort. The black-fiber floss utilizes coconut oil and bamboo for improved efficiency.

Future Plans

Dr. Oladele plans to expand Dentrogen in the coming years, potentially incorporating artificial intelligence and exploring dental manufacturing and supplies. She believes oral care can be smarter, cleaner, and better, describing Dentrogen as a platform for change. The company’s initial product rollout is currently available.
