South African Artist Nomisupasta Discusses Her Work

Nomisupasta anticipates the release of her new album, Surrender, in February 2026, marking a significant period of personal and artistic growth. The album, executive produced by Thandiswa Mazwai, reflects themes of identity, renewal, and social consciousness, blending African influences with a global soundscape.

Upcoming Album: *Surrender*

Nomisupasta’s forthcoming album, Surrender, will be launched at Sober Fest 2026 in Soweto. The album’s title reflects a period of personal release and growth. It features production from both local and international collaborators, including Mr. Porter, Rapsody, Madlib, PH Raw X, and Robin Fassie. The album is intentionally designed for use in film, television, and documentary projects, with themes of rebirth, identity, city life, movement, and political satire.

Collaboration with Rapsody

Nomisupasta collaborated with Rapsody last year, with Rapsody traveling to South Africa to support Nomisupasta’s SowetoNightOut.tours business. They recorded music for Rapsody’s upcoming album and engaged in conversations with June 16 activist Bra Seth Mazibuko. The collaboration resulted in several songs, including Njalo Njalo, produced by Madlib.

Podcast: *What You Like*

Nomisupasta recently launched a six-part podcast, What You Like, available on YouTube. The podcast explores her writing process, particularly her satirical work, and examines political absurdities shaping the country. The first season focuses on her upcoming single, “This Is What You Like,” addressing topics such as the Madlanga Commission and parliamentary oversight.

Sober Fest

Sober Fest is a wellness-centered lifestyle festival that brings together a curated health and wellness market, diverse food experiences, a kids zone, comedians, DJs, live music, and addiction recovery support. The festival aims to create a joyful space for families and friends to celebrate wellness and serves as a platform for brand partnerships in wellness, health, family, culture, arts, food, fitness, lifestyle, and tourism.

Album Production and Collaboration

For Surrender, Nomisupasta collaborated with Rapsody’s production team, including Mr Porter, Teeba Forbes, and Victor Gaspar, as well as Drum Pope, 37 Mph, Nexbeat, and Ootz. Thandiswa Mazwai served as the album’s executive producer, with the collaboration described as a balance between Nomisupasta’s goal-oriented approach and Mazwai’s focus on the creative process.

New Single: “This Is What You Like”

The upcoming single, “This Is What You Like,” produced by PH Raw X and featuring Robin Fassie, is described as satirical soul music. The song critiques a political system perceived as prioritizing personal gain over public service and explores the tendency to deny uncomfortable truths.

Musical Style and Future Collaborations

Nomisupasta describes her current musical style as Hip Hop Soul, a genre that allows her to express storytelling, satire, and vocals. She has previously been described as Jazz Pop and has received recognition for her African Alternative music. She aims to create music for a community of thinkers, feelers, hip hop lovers, soul diggers, and freedom dreamers. Future collaborations she desires include working with Sjava, Les Nubians, Zulumeka, Sho Madjozi, Eminem, and Tank and the Bangas, citing their fearless creative DNA.
