Straight Worker Alleges Retaliation After Supreme Court Victory

A longtime Ohio Department of Youth Services employee accused the agency of reassigning her and denying her a promotion in retaliation for her US Supreme Court victory reviving a sexual orientation discrimination suit.

ODYS officials embarked on a retaliation campaign against Marlean Ames following her 2025 high court win, including requiring her to report to a juvenile correctional facility it oversees and denying her unrestricted access to its administrative site despite the nature of her duties, according to a complaint filed Wednesday in the US District Court for the Southern District of Ohio.
