SuperSport recently concluded broadcasts of the 35th TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the fourth edition of the Betway SA20, marking a period of successful sports broadcasting following the partnership between CANAL+ and MultiChoice in September 2025. The broadcasts showcased enhanced broadcasting capabilities and innovation, resulting in improved viewership experiences and benefits for DStv, DStv Stream, and GOtv subscribers.
Prior to the start of the AFCON and Betway SA20 tournaments in December 2025, DStv subscribers gained access to select high-profile Ligue 1 McDonald’s football matches, featuring teams such as Paris Saint-Germain, Marseille, Lille, Lyon, Strasbourg, and Monaco. A “Open Time” campaign provided all DStv subscribers, regardless of package, with access to the full Premium DStv Bouquet for a weekend in November 2025, allowing viewers to watch Siya Kolisi’s 100th Springbok test against France.
An “Upsize” campaign offered active, fully-paid DStv subscribers automatic free upgrades to higher-tier packages for linear decoder viewing from November 2025 to January 2026. Premium subscribers also received two additional DStv Stream connected devices, doubling the benefit from two to four devices at no extra cost. The tournament, themed “The Family Meets,” took place in Morocco, culminating in Senegal’s victory over the host nation on January 18, 2026. SuperSport’s studio panel included football stars Odion Ighalo and Salomon Kalou.
The fourth edition of the Betway SA20 began on Boxing Day (December 26, 2025), marking the first time the tournament started in December instead of January. The tournament was the result of year-long planning and execution by the League, led by Commissioner Graeme Smith, and SuperSport, under the guidance of Rendani Ramovha. SuperSport’s broadcast included ball-tracking, graphics, and commentary in English, Afrikaans, and IsiXhosa.
SuperSport’s social media and digital platforms saw increased engagement with the Betway SA20 tournament. Additional coverage included a Digital Build-Up on YouTube and an interactive account featuring fan perspectives. International cricket stars such as Eoin Morgan, Kevin Pietersen, AB de Villiers, Dale Steyn, and Makhaya Ntini provided analysis and commentary.
The Betway SA20 season featured appearances from celebrities including former Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi, actors Zola Nombona, Linda Mtoba, Zamani Mbatha, and Nambitha Ben-Mazwi. Personalities from DStv’s Mzansi Magic and KykNet shows also attended matches.
Rendani Ramovha stated that the partnership has united audiences through sports broadcasting. SuperSport aims to maintain its position at the forefront of sports broadcasting in Africa and globally through CANAL+ synergies. The CANAL+ Group also facilitated the return of NBA coverage to SuperSport channels in November, the first time since the 2015/16 season.
