The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) hosted Soul Food Night: Harlem Nights on Saturday, an event celebrating Black history and culture. The event was organized by UMD’s Black Student Association.
Approximately 150 guests attended the event, which featured music, food, dancing, and a photo booth. Attendees were encouraged to dress formally. Local soul food was provided by Mama T’s in Superior.
Blue jazz music played throughout the evening, and the UMD Jazz Band performed for the guests, providing opportunities for dancing and singing.
Ilm’aime Ntambwe, Treasurer of UMD’s Black Student Association, stated that events like this are not frequently held in the current environment and that appreciating African American culture with others is meaningful. The Black Student Association meets at UMD every Wednesday and welcomes new members. Information about the student group can be found at https://duluthumn.campusgroups.com/bsa/home/.
