United Bank for Africa stock rose 2.14 percent from 42.10 Nigerian naira on January 2 to 43.00 naira on October 12, according to a BusinessDay report dated October 14, 2026.
The report said UBA and Access Holdings were still awaiting their half-year accounts while First HoldCo, Zenith Bank and Guaranty Trust Holding Company had already released H1 results. The publication said investors were looking for clearer evidence on earnings momentum, asset quality and the effect of Nigeria’s banking recapitalisation.
UBA’s board approved its audited H1 accounts in August, but publication remained subject to Central Bank of Nigeria approval. The delay left investors with less recent company-specific information than was available for several major peers.
BusinessDay said UBA’s shares had lagged the gains recorded by several larger Nigerian banking stocks. First HoldCo, Zenith Bank and GTCO had posted stronger year-to-date advances by October 12, while UBA’s limited gain left its performance below those tier-one peers.
The comparison puts the pending accounts at the centre of the near-term investment case. Once released, the figures should give investors a clearer basis for assessing profitability, capital strength, credit quality and dividend capacity.
United Bank for Africa Plc is a pan-African banking group serving businesses across the African continent. Its stated strategy focuses on facilitating intra-African and inter-African trade and the inflow of investment capital through its regional network.
In Nigeria’s large-bank segment, UBA competes with Access Holdings, First HoldCo, Zenith Bank and GTCO. BusinessDay’s comparison places UBA among the country’s tier-one lenders, while showing that its share-price performance had trailed several of those peers over the period discussed.
Nigeria’s banking sector remains in focus alongside Current market reports.
