Worshippers from across Africa and beyond gathered in Qatar’s capital this week as Ebenezer Inter-Denominational Church celebrated its annual International Day, showcasing cultural diversity and Christian unity in one of the Gulf state’s most multicultural faith gatherings.
Held at Antioch Hall in Doha’s Anglican Centre, the event brought together church members, diplomats, community leaders and guests representing several nationalities under the theme, “Beauty in Diversity.”
Dressed in traditional attire reflecting their countries of origin, participants transformed the venue into a colourful display of culture, music and worship, highlighting the growing role of diaspora faith communities in fostering social cohesion across borders.
Representatives from Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, South Africa and Nigeria delivered cultural performances featuring traditional music, dance and storytelling, earning enthusiastic applause from the congregation.
“Although we come from different nations, traditions and languages, we are one body in Christ,” one church minister told attendees, underscoring the event’s central message of unity through faith.
The celebration also drew diplomatic representation from the Ghana Embassy in Qatar. Ghana’s Ambassador to Qatar, Mohammed Nurudeen Ismaila, was represented by Head of Chancery Sarah Opokua Asare, Consular Officer Frank Kyei Owusu and Diaspora Affairs Officer Pearl Kekeli Alipui.
In a keynote message delivered on behalf of the ambassador, the delegation highlighted Qatar’s multicultural environment and Ghana’s longstanding commitment to peaceful coexistence as examples of how diversity can serve as a source of strength rather than division.
Organisers said the event sought to remind participants that cultural differences should be embraced as gifts that enrich communities rather than barriers that separate them.
The gathering attracted a wide range of community leaders and organisations from across Doha, including executives of the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NiDO), representatives of the Turkish, South African and Ugandan communities, as well as officials from educational institutions serving expatriate families in Qatar.
Throughout the day, worship sessions were interwoven with cultural presentations and fellowship activities designed to strengthen relationships among the diverse communities represented.
For many attendees, the celebration carried significance beyond its festive atmosphere.
Church leaders said the event reflected a broader spiritual message that faith can bridge differences of nationality, language and culture at a time when societies around the world continue to grapple with division and identity-based tensions.
As the programme concluded, participants joined in a collective declaration: “One Faith. One People. One Celebration. United in Love. Inspired by God.”
Organisers described the event as a reflection of the church’s commitment to building an inclusive Christian community in Qatar, where thousands of expatriates from different backgrounds live and work side by side.
