Black Music Month Concert to Honor Zachary Breaux

There is much more to the life of a musician than the songs we hear or the performances we see. Each June, the Port Arthur Public Library celebrates Black Music Month by recognizing the achievements and lasting influence of Black musicians who have made important contributions to every genre of music. Since 2012, the library has presented an exhibit honoring nationally acclaimed jazz guitarist Zachary Breaux, a native of Port Arthur, Texas. The display features books, portraits, memorabilia, and music that highlight his life and legacy, while also recognizing other musicians from Port Arthur and the surrounding area whose talents have enriched the local and global music Community.
This year’s Black Music Month Celebration Honoring Zachary Breaux will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 27 at the Port Arthur Pavilion, 500 Procter St. The free community event will feature live performances by local artists and vendors, offering guests an opportunity to enjoy a variety of musical expressions while learning more about the artists who have helped shape the region’s cultural history. The event is open to all ages, and attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs for seating.
Under the leadership of Steven Williams, the Port Arthur Public Library continues to provide programs that educate, inspire, and celebrate the community’s rich cultural heritage. The Black Music Month event, organized by Wanda Thompson, promises to be a meaningful and enjoyable occasion for residents and visitors alike. It is an event well worth attending for anyone who appreciates music, history, and community.
