Kenyans who lose their birth certificates without photocopies, or those seeking the document without birth notifications, can still recover their birth certificates, Huduma Kenya has clarified.

Responding to a query, Huduma Kenya explained that the documents can still be recovered through official government channels, but individuals must follow certain guidelines.

According to the agency, affected individuals can still retrieve their records by returning to the original registration point where the birth was first recorded.

“By visiting the same place you did the first initial birth certificate application with the birth certificate to acquire that particular ID, you’ll also be assisted accordingly,” Huduma Kenya explained.

According to the instructions, applicants are required to visit either the original registration office or a Huduma Kenya Centre, where officers can trace the birth entry using personal details such as full names, date and place of birth, and parents’ names.

For children whose birth notifications are missing, the agency said applicants must return to the hospital of birth, where they will be provided with a copy of the child’s notification.

The notification copy, the body said, was issued at a fee, which varied depending on the hospital.

“If it’s a child, you’ll go back to the hospital of birth and get a copy of the child’s notification at a fee depending on the hospital,” it added.

It is important to note that when these other documents are available, applications for birth certificates can be done online through the eCitizen portal. The portal allows Kenyans to apply for the service before visiting the Huduma centres for the documents.

Birth certificates remain crucial documents for Kenyan children, providing proof of nationality required for national examinations and future identification card applications.

Parents and guardians of newborns can apply for birth certificates at any Huduma Centre or Civil Registration Department offices nationwide.

Birth Certificates provide proof of one’s Kenyan citizenship and is similarly required of pupils and students applying to sit for their National Examinations.

Also, when one wants to get a national identity card, the birth certificate is usually required. The document is also needed when applying for a passport.
