Punch Lines Only, a new event blending hip-hop lyricism and comedy, is scheduled for The One Room Music and Comedy Club later this month. The event aims to create a unique cultural experience by combining elements of both music and comedy.
The show, taking place on February 28, will feature Tats Nkonzo and Stogie T as headliners.
Tats Nkonzo, whose real name is Mthawelanga Nkonzo, is a South African comedian, singer, songwriter, and television presenter. He is known for hosting SA’s Got Talent and incorporating musical elements into his stand-up routines. Nkonzo’s career began in reality television and has progressed to nationally recognized performances, including receiving the Comics’ Choice breakthrough act of the year award. He is also launching The Tats Nkonzo Comedy Podcast on February 17.
Stogie T, real name Tumi Molekane, is a veteran hip-hop artist with over 15 years of experience. Initially known as the lead vocalist of Tumi and the Volume, he established a successful solo career with his 2016 album, Stogie T, collaborating with prominent figures in South African hip-hop. He has since signed with Def Jam Recordings Africa. Molekane’s work often explores themes of identity, society, and reflection, as demonstrated in his recent album, Anomy, released last year.
The concept for Punch Lines Only was inspired by the shared reliance on punchlines in both hip-hop lyrics and stand-up comedy. Organizers aim to create a premium entertainment experience that attracts a wide audience and fosters cultural growth. The event will also provide a platform for local performers to showcase their musical and comedic talents.
Tickets for the event are available via Quicket, starting at R150.
