Kendrick Lamar has surpassed Jay-Z to become the rapper with the most Grammy Awards of all time. Lamar now holds a total of 27 Grammy Awards.
He achieved this milestone at the recent Grammy Awards ceremony, winning five awards and exceeding Jay-Z’s previous record of 24 wins.
Grammy Awards Won
Lamar received awards for Best Rap Album for GNX, Best Rap Song for “TV Off,” Best Melodic Rap Performance for “Luther,” Best Rap Performance for “Chains & Whips,” and Record of the Year for “Luther.”
Acceptance Speech
During his acceptance speech for Best Rap Album, Lamar stated, “It is hip-hop as usual, man. I’m not good at talking about myself, but I express it through the music. It’s an honor to be here. … Hip-hop is going to always be right here. We are going to be in these suits, looking good, having our folks with us. We are going to be having the culture with us.”

Prior to the awards show, Lamar was in third place behind Jay-Z and Kanye West, both with 24 Grammy wins. He was nominated for nine awards at this year’s ceremony, making him the most-nominated artist of the year.

Lamar received his first Grammy nominations in 2012 with the release of his album Good Kid, M.A.A.D City. He secured his first Grammy Awards in 2015 for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance for “I.”
