The Documentary

“The Black Press: Soldiers Without Swords” highlights the history and importance of the Black press in America. The documentary explores how Black newspapers served as vital sources of information and support for Black communities, particularly during the Great Migration. It emphasizes the role these publications played in covering events and issues that mainstream media often ignored.

The Screening and Discussion

The free screening will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Dawn Montgomery of Black Press USA. Panelists include Shannon Sims, a former anchor for TMJ4, and other Black journalists. The discussion will focus on the current state of Black journalism, the importance of supporting Black-owned media, and how the community can engage with and support these outlets.
