
The US Senior Military Official and Defence Attaché for Comoros, Madagascar, Mauritius and Seychelles, Commander Michelle Calarasu, met Seychelles Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Minister Barry Faure during a courtesy call held on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Maison Quéau de Quinssy.
The meeting included discussions on recent and ongoing defence cooperation between Seychelles and the United States, including the signing of the US Department of Defense State Partnership Programme between the Seychelles Defence Forces and the New Mexico National Guard. The programme is intended to strengthen collaboration in maritime security, disaster preparedness and capacity building through structured engagement with the US National Guard system.
Commander Calarasu also thanked the Seychelles government for hosting the Topside United States Navy Band during the country’s Golden Jubilee celebrations, where the group performed alongside the Seychelles National Band and the United Arab Emirates Band during the National Day Parade.
Minister Faure acknowledged the cooperation between the two countries, particularly in maritime security, and highlighted continued engagement on regional security matters. Discussions also touched on upcoming initiatives, including the plenary session of the Contact Group on Illicit Maritime Activities scheduled to take place in Mauritius later this month, alongside pending agreements expected to further strengthen bilateral collaboration.
