Ghana to Host 2027 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, Marking a Historic Return
Ghana is set to welcome back the TotalEnergies CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2027, officially awarded the hosting rights by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). This marks a significant milestone for the West African nation, 28 years after the Black Satellites clinched the trophy on home soil in 1999.
The decision, communicated via a formal letter to Ghana Football Association (GFA) General Secretary Lawyer Prosper Harrison Addo, Esq., underscores Ghana’s growing reputation as a premier footballing nation in Africa. The announcement has been met with widespread excitement within the Ghanaian football community, particularly as the nation prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Beyond the logistical and administrative aspects, this hosting opportunity holds deep significance. More recently, Ghana successfully hosted the 13th African Games in March 2024, showcasing its ability to manage complex, multi-discipline events across multiple venues. The nation also hosted the WAFU Zone B U-17 Cup of Nations in 2024 at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra.
