Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) has reiterated its dedication to sports development, aiming to raise the international profile of Kenyan sporting events and improve the fan experience. The company’s commitment was highlighted during the recent Magical Kenya Open tournament held at Karen Country Club.

KBL Managing Director Andrew Kilonzo emphasized the deliberate structure of the company’s involvement in elite sporting events, designed to provide high-quality platforms for athletes and spectators alike.

Sponsorship of the Magical Kenya Open

KBL supported the 57th edition of the Magical Kenya Open through its Johnnie Walker brand, contributing a KES 65 million sponsorship package encompassing both cash and in-kind support. This investment was crucial in delivering the tournament’s entertainment village, known as the “19th hole.” The entertainment lineup for this year’s event included performances by Nyashinski, Njerae, Nijo, Redbone, Vera, Festa, Trixy, and Benitez.

Global Reach and Impact

The tournament reached an estimated 750 million households worldwide over its four-day duration, reflecting Kenya’s increasing prominence in the global sporting arena. Kilonzo noted this increased visibility benefits both the Magical Kenya Open and the country as a whole.

Continued Investment in Sports

The KES 65 million sponsorship follows KBL’s recent KES 40 million investment in the HSBC SVNS 2 rugby tournament. KBL maintains sports sponsorships totaling over half a billion shillings across various disciplines. The company also expressed a desire to support the development of grassroots talent within Kenya.

Tournament Results

The 2026 Magical Kenya Open, held from February 19 to 22, was won by South Africa’s Casey Jarvis, who achieved a score of 25-under-par 255. Njoroge Kibugu was the top-performing Kenyan golfer, finishing tied for 61st place and being the only local golfer to make the cut.
