Black Surgeon Who Received 21 Conduct Complaints Loses Bias Suit

A Black pediatric surgeon terminated from the Cook Children’s Medical Center lost his suit over conditions put on the renewal of his credentials, after allegedly receiving unfairly late notice of complaints against him.
Cook took reasonable action against Patrick Thomas given the volume of complaints, the US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit ruled Thursday in a per curiam opinion. The court affirmed the dismissal of his hostile work environment claim and summary judgment issued against him on his racial discrimination and retaliation claims.
