February is Black History Month in the United States—a month in which Black Americans’ contributions to and place in U.S. history, culture, politics, and heritage are explored and celebrated.

But while much emphasis is given to Black Americans’ role in shaping the United States as it exists today, less attention is given to Black Americans’ influence on, and experiences with, U.S. foreign policy, international relations, and global history writ large.
