Practically no one, with the exception of investors, should be happy Santa Cruz County has become the most expensive rental market in the United States.
According to Rent Cafe, the average rent is $3,289 for a 707-square-foot apartment. Our small county, with a paucity of high-paying jobs, now has outpaced San Francisco in what it costs to rent housing.
