Pittsburgh native Herb Douglas, oldest living US Olympian, dies at 101

Herbert "Herb" Douglas Jr., the oldest living U.S. Olympic medalist and a University of Pittsburgh sports icon, died Saturday. He was 101.Douglas was the first Black basketball player at Pittsburgh's Allderdice High School. He was also among Pitt's first Black football players. He won a bronze medal in the long jump at the 1948 London Games.A member of the track team, Douglas won four intercollegiate championships in the long jump and one in the 100-yard dash.
