Someone San Diego Should Know: The Abdelkader sisters

Written by on April 7, 2022

The Abdelkader sisters are three of seven siblings born in Baghdad, Iraq, the modern-day terrain of Mesopotamia where the word “civilization” originated. Together, they have a wealth of experiences, including volunteering at the Arab Film Festival, multi-cultural festivals, Welcome Newcomers Network, Iraqi Friendship Festival, Black Lives Matter, #MeToo. They protested the Muslim immigration ban, and most recently they have supported Ukraine’s refugees.

Wedad and Najah moved to San Diego in 1980, to complete post-graduate degrees. Younger sister, Afrah, came to the U.S. in1999.
