In early March of 2020, Monet Carter-Mixon was at work when she looked at her phone and noticed a missed call. It was from the Pierce County Medical Examiner's office. When Monet could finally break away from her job, she called back. The man who picked up informed her that her brother, Manny Ellis, had died that morning.
MONET CARTER-MIXON: I don't know. I flipped out. I was crying. I, like, fell to the ground, I know. I'm pretty sure everyone's had their heart broken before . . .
