Black creators deserve opportunities — not just Black opportunities

Only one Black director, Rodney Lucas, was behind last year’s Super Bowl ads. In 2024, the number of Black directors grew to three — though there were no Black women on the list. 

In fact, there was a lack of minority groups behind this year’s Super Bowl ads as a whole, of which only three were directed by women. This lack of inclusivity on advertising’s biggest stage reveals a stark lack of diversity behind the scenes of creative development. 

It raises a crucial question: Where are the Black writers, directors, producers and editors . . .
