Black News – Racial Disparities Persist Despite Decline In Poverty Among Blacks In The US

Sept. 12, 2023: While there has been a noteworthy reduction in the overall poverty rate for Black individuals across the US according to Census data released today, significant racial disparities continue to be a pressing issue.Black individuals made up 20.1% of the population in poverty in 2022 but only 13.5% of the total population. This results in a ratio of 1.5, meaning that the Black population was overrepresented in poverty.
