Black Workers Lose Class Certification Bid in Chicago Bias Suit

Black employees in Chicago’s Department of Water Management lost their bid to certify a class in their lawsuit over alleged racist behavior among department leaders.

The US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois denied the plaintiffs’ motion on June 6, holding that, for their hostile work environment claim, the workers failed to identify at least one question common to all proposed class members with an answer likely to drive a result in the litigation.
