Before a gunman in Maine, who has yet to be captured, killed 18 people and wounded 13 more in Lewiston on Wednesday night, there had been seven mass shootings in the United States this year, with the most recent one occurring in mid-July. But the shooting in Maine is the country’s deadliest of the year.
