Shreveport attorney may be first Black federal judge in Western District

President Joe Biden has nominated two Louisiana attorneys for federal judgeships, including Shreveport's Jerry Edwards Jr., who will be the first Black to serve on the U.S. District Court Western District if confirmed by the Senate.

Biden also nominated Brandon Scott Long of New Orleans to serve as an Eastern District of Louisiana judge.

Republican Louisiana U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy issued a statement saying he will support both nominees.

"Mr. Edwards and Mr. Long have the experience and knowledge of the law . . .
